Noble Friends,
On this day in 1429, the French under the leadership of Joan of Arc 
broke the siege of Orléans, with the English finally withdrawing on 8 
May: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Orléans . Orléans marked the 
turning point for the French in the late period of the Hundred Years 
War, and opened the way for the recovery of Reims and the coronation of 
the Dauphin as Charles VII.
Not often reported, Joan's Vanguard at Orléans included 70 Scottish 
archers and 60 Scottish men-at-arms under the command of Sir Patrick Ogilvy.
