Noble Friends,

On this date in 1419 fifteen Catholic town officials were chucked out 
the windows of the Prague town hall by Hussite rebels. All of the 
Catholics died in the fall or were killed by the mob below:

Tossing people out of windows seems to have been a habit in Prague. It 
happened again in 1483, 1618 and 1948.

The Scots were not far behind the Czechs in defenestrations as a means 
of removing one's enemies. On 22 February 1452, The 8th Earl of Douglas 
was stabbed 26 times by King James II while under a pledge of safe 
conduct at the "Black Supper" in Strling Castle. We dagger-happy Scots 
didn't do anything by halves! Then Douglas' body was thrown by the 
king's henchmen out of a window to the courtyard below.
