I am inviting you to play with your food at Trial by Fire LaborDay weekend in Bright Hills!  I amsponsoring a subtletie competition with at least one prize and hope you willenter!  A subtletie can be thought of assomething you make while *playing with your food* although not all subtleties usefood.  A subtletie is something that lookslike something else. For example, if you make a pastry castle, apples from eggsor an animal from sugar plate you have made a subtletie.  Wax subtleties were also frequently made inthe sixteenth century! The rules are simple. The subtletie may be made from any substance used to make period subtleties. You may make the subtletie on-site or off-site. The subject of your subtletie should be anything related tocooking.  For example, you could make apot or dish out of marzipan.  You couldmake marzipan that looked like a cooked chicken leg or loaf of bread.  You could make a cooking hearth withfire.  Use your imagination and havefun!  Documentation is worth extrapoints.  Documentation should include atleast the name of your source book and the name of the recipe with adescription of the materials and procedures you actually used. Deirdre O'Bardon
