[MR] Memorial Day

Ya know what, sometimes to a vet memorial day can bring about mixed
feelings. It is nice to have a day to remember those that have served and
are still doing so, but what about the rest of the year? Not trying to bring
done all the efforts I have seen this weekend at the joust, but I think that
some of the things we in the kingdom started to do at the start of the
war(s) should be brought back.
I seem to recall that Duke Logan during one of his reigns tried to start a
tradition that has fallen off. What was done was that after the traditional
toasts were done, a last one was said something like- "To those that have
served and those that have fallen." We need to bring that back.
Does anyone know how many Atlantians have served in the last ten years, and
have come back needing Help? There was talk of tracking that at the start of
the war. These service people are much more in need then those that served
in my time. Longest I was under harms way was 30 days or so, these days they
are running into years. Maybe we should look into that if any has a idea how
to do so?
How many of us have someone in harms way, and are supporting them by email
and or reg mail? I have a household member in Afganistan, and am trying to
show him support by keeping communication open. You would not believe how
much joy a box of sweets or something helps. If you desire, the USO has a
"penpal" program you can adopt a service man to wright to.
Enough said, do not want to appear to rant.

I will add my thanks to those who have served our country. I appreciate all
you have done for us, and continue to do.
Today, however, is about those who have died in that service. I know many
of them, and I salute them today.
