Noble friends, Especially all Scots:

On this day in 1503 James IV of Scotland formally married Margaret Tudor
(Henry VIII's sister) in Holyrood Abbey. James and Margaret enjoyed a
happy marriage, despite the death of five out of six of their children
(James V surviving). Their marriage brought a few years of uneasy peace
between Scotland and England.

James wisely pursued a policy of guarded diplomacy with Henry VIII.
Things went well until 1513 when Henry again went to war against France.
James was called upon once again to honor the "Auld Alliance" with
France. The Scottish army invaded northern England to provide the French
with a diversion. His life and his rein ended at the Battle of Flodden
when the Scottish army was nearly wiped out. He was a good king (maybe
the best of the Stewarts), but a rather poor general..

Wikipedia has a page on Margaret:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Tudor . James also rates his own
page at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_IV_of_Scotland . You can
read about Flodden at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Flodden .

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Who's Ancestors Did Not Come Back from Flodden
