(Friends -- the fancier version of this flyer is attached, and a plain text version is below.)
The Kingdom of Atlantia needs a few…Angles and Saxons,
with maybe a few Norse, Scots, Irish, or Welsh neighbors, to assist the National Geographic Museum in Washington, D.C. to present a Yule Celebration in conjunction with the exhibit “Anglo Saxon Hoard: Gold of England’s Dark Ages. It’s a king-size demo open to the whole kingdom!
We could use some spinners, weavers, embroiderers, bards, musicians, fools, heralds, wood workers, leather workers, smiths, armor makers (especially chain mail), cooks, brewers, scribes, illuminators, gardeners, herbalists, potters, and even a few nobles...
If you can demonstrate and explain an art, craft, skill or profession that was part of English life from 500 A.D. to 900 A.D., and have the appropriate clothing, Your Kingdom needs YOU!
Please contact the autocrat or deputy, and give us a short resume of the art, craft, or skill you can offer – telling us how many years you’ve done it, what samples, or tools you can bring, etc.
When: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011
(If you can’t make this date, fear not – a second demo is planned for Sunday, February 12, 2012, the day after Bright Hills’ Birthday event. You could make it a weekend and attend both!)
Where: National Geographic Museum
1145 17th St. N.W., Washington, D.C. 20036
Autocrat: Devin of Storvik (mka Devan Riley); Devanation at gmail.com;
301-602-6181 (please no calls after 9 pm); 3415 Stonehall Ct., Calverton, MD 20705
Deputy: Lady Yseulte Trevelyn (mka Karen Setze); brunosharpy at yahoo.com;
410-721-4752 (best to call AFTER 9 p.m.); 1629 Riedel Rd., Crofton, MD 21114
Please note: there is limited space, so not everyone who volunteers will be selected for the demo “cast.” But everyone is welcome to attend, since the museum is offering the demo to the public at no charge.
Viewing museum exhibits, including the Anglo Saxon Hoard show, will require a ticket purchase.
