I was really excited to read the description of the "What are you bringing to the palace?" competition scheduled for 12th Night. I LOVE it when organizers come up with a cool new twist! If you haven't read over the A&S section of the event website yet, I recommend it. If you're like me, you're going to need the lead time to get going on the perfect project...(something I've been thinking of doing that I suddenly feel like I have been given 'the kick in the pants' to do by January.

I don't know much about the source material for Maximilian I, BUT there are printed accounts from Henry VIII's reign in England that tell you how much was given as a 'reward' for various deliveries of items to the royal household. (Henry VIII himself always gave out more coin when receiving a deer he could eat than when sent a tame deer he was presumably expected to keep as a pet, as I recall...) While obviously the time frame and location isn't a general match, those sources might spark ideas for people unfamiliar with the practical (and impractical) needs of a royal court. Along with the printed sources, there are works by reputable historians on that side of court life in England (David Starkey, Derek Wilson).
