[MR] opinion on peerage...

This weekend, I was told by a Knight of Atlantia that "Peerage is a political 
appointment." 
I realize that I am stubbornly idealistic, but have we reached the point in our 
Game that recognition for a job well done is no longer based purely on merit? 
What are your thoughts?
