[MR] opinions on peerage

I *think* I've kept up with the discussion, but admittedly I've
skimmed many of the posts.

Am I the only person reading this in a completely different way? I
have no problem with peerage being considered a political appointment.
For one, it points out that peerage as a job, not an award. It
recognizes that it's ultimately an appointment by the crown, not an
election of peers. And it acknowledges that there's more than skill at
stake, but the ability of the peer to represent the leadership of the
SCA in a positive light.

Maybe that's not what was meant, but that's what I read.
