What was interesting for me was that when I was trying to find a
mentor to work with for my Rapier marshallate (I was already
a heavy, target archery, and CA marshal) I was that told we already
had 'enough' rapier marshals in the North. As far as I was concerned
that was bunch of milarky. There can never be too many marshals
in a region.

Unto my fellow Atlantians, greetings from Kevin of Thornbury.
As a member of the Order of the Pelican in Atlantia, I must say that I
do not like these numbers at all. I did a quick analysis of the ratio
of armored fighters to marshalls and our beloved kindgom is ranked
solidly at the bottom of the list where it comes to this service.
In Atlantia, for every 10 armored fighters there is one person who
serves to marshal them. Across the SCA, there is a marshal for an
average of only three (or so) armored fighters.
This is not a call for more non-combatants to stand out in a field and
watch the rest of us play. This is a call for more of my brothers and
sisters in arms to study and train as a marshal in order to better
show courtesy and respect for all who work to ensure our safety.
