[MR] "courtesy" and storm trooper outfits

not interested in reading a bunch of cataloged emails. however, i would
handle it the same way i did at gulf wars in march (a very disappointing
event that i will never attend again) when some "free spirited" sca folks
choose to be free spirited hippy types and run through a kingdoms open party
naked. they thought it was cute. i went looking for them. i never found
them but i did speak to the douche heads that put them up to wagging their
penises in my wifes face and in front of the children that were nearby.
there would have been nothing polite abut the meeting. no conversation.
and, in the end, no question about whether this behavior was appropriate or
not. im not sure why you would think exposing yourself nude is equivalent
to being dressed in some geek-assed outfit from a movie. but if folks think
the two are equal it is a sad commentary on where we are. i still hope to
find those guys.

Well, how would you handle it if someone showed up nude? Perhaps you should
handle your storm trooper similarly to how the Berkeley SCA group did the
nudist. From the SCA-Stories2-msg file in the Florilegium:
=======

From: djheydt at uclink.berkeley.edu (Dorothy J Heydt)

Date: 2 Aug 1995 22:38:54 GMT

There is in Berkeley a guy famous for going around starkers whenever he can
get away with it (which is not very often any more, since the City Council
passed a law against it). He came to an SCA event once.
They tell me he actually did show up in the buff, and the Autocrat came over
and told him in no uncertain terms that this was not Berkeley, that there
were children about, and that if he didn't want to get his ass busted into
jail so fast the rest of him would have to catch up by Pony Express, he'd
better put some clothing on it.

When I saw him, Friday evening, he was wearing a loincloth and a pair of
sandals.

On Saturday I saw him in a pair of baggy pants and a pair of sandals.
By Sunday he had added a little bolero and a hat. If we'd had long enough to
work on him, we probably could've gotten him fully clothed.

And then he could get a job posing for covers of romance novels-- he is in
fairly decent shape (gad! he'd better be). He'd better grow his hair back
in, though.

The amusing thing is that nobody tipped him off to try arguing that
nakedness is period (Adam, etc.).

As Mistress Eilis remarked to Mistress Katherine Saturday morning, as they
watched him doing calisthenics at the edge of the Eric, "There are nudists,
and then there are exhibitionists. He's an exhibitionist."
