The background check I mentioned (it's been many years) was probably a
criminal records check. I don't believe I actually got one because I ceased to
be very active before the requirement was imposed (possibly by our sponsoring
organization, a local church).

With respect to two deep rules, what do you do if you are running a youth
practice and a child gets injured seriously enough to require a trip to the
emergency room? Do you let the youth go alone? Or do you go and leave the rest
of the group alone until their parents come to pick them up? With two deep
leadership (as defined above), you have another adult who can be left to await
the parents' pick-up.

more males would volunteer to mentors youth if not for the reminders of the
risk in the news. Occasionally, some guy is falsely accused and even if he is
later found innocent he is ruined. Financially, socially, marriage, etc. His
name is Mudd and he is fortunate to still be amoung the living. And all that
anyone remembers is that he was associated with something creepy. So I don't
believe its unreasonable for many men to decide its simply not worth the
risk.

rules, etc?  Or something we can borrow from the Scouts?  It would be nice
to have something our leaders could read over. It seems a better approach
to teach our Mentors to never put themselves in that position.  We need to
protect the children, but we also need to protect our brothers and sisters.
