Some of us (and I am one) don't want to do scrolls. I know - HORRORS! But
the truth is, while I enjoy a day or two of sitting with my friends playing
'colour inside the lines' and chatting, I am totally overwhelmed by the idea
of designing (mostly designing) and crafting a scroll. Blank or not.
Since we've eliminated the promissory 'program', I have made, um, five (?)
scrolls in about 10 years. I think. And since the recipient has to stay
secret, I could do none of that work outside of my home, or even, sometimes,
around my family. As a social activity, that sucks. If I wanted to add
another solitary activity, I would (and have, for specific friends receiving
awards) do it, but *I* prefer to dedicate my solitary-time to research, not
scribal arts.
I really like the suggestion of thank you notes and will be creating a kit
of blanks and pens to bring to Crown Tourney*, to spend some time in the
Hall.

*When I'm not at Herald's Point. Which is socially fun too.
