I agree, we should be.  At a local meeting level, I feel like the Chatelaine
might be the one who introduces the newcomer, but it's the Marshal/Knight/White
Scarf/MOAS/Laurel/etc. who gets them to come back.

At an event, I know a lot of people can pick out newbies because they recognize
the loaner garb- but could there be a better way of alerting people that someone
is new and might not (a) know what's going on or (b) have a lot of friends there
already?  An acquaintance of mine went to her first event- a Twelfth Night- in
the well-fitted, meticulously detailed, and spectacularly bejeweled 1570s
Elizabethan gown she made and wears as a member of the royal court at a
Renaissance Faire.  She did not look like a "newbie", and could easily be
mistaken for someone who hadn't played in a while or was from another kingdom.

Perhaps a favor of some sort could be given at Troll that would alert people
that this person is new; look after them?  A belt favor or arm sash, in a solid
color, would be inexpensive, easy, and readily visible.

since in my opinion everyone who pays site
fee and is in garb is a Chatelaine to one degree or another, but that's a
different story

Chirurgeon, Canton of St. Georges
Chatelaine, Barony of Nottinghill Coill
