Being a recent newcomer, I suppose my perspective here will help as well. I
moved to Gastonia, NC from Australia last November. Though I had heard of
the SCA there many years ago, I never joined due to many reasons. My new
wife Shrewlet, as most people know her as, has been a member for over 20
years. So once I moved here it was an obvious choice that I would join the
SCA and started going to events, with 12th night being my first. Maybe
having someone at my side that knows many people in the SCA made my
introduction easier, but I have for at each turn, met many wonderful people
that have welcomed me and helped me into this fine organization, I cannot
fault in any way how I have been treated. I have nothing but fond memories
of my times so far in the SCA :)
In September during Raven's Cove Baronial Investiture, we met a guy whose
first time it was to an event, knowing what it's like as a new comer, my
wife and I spoke to him a bit and think made it easier for him, he also had
a good time :)
Maybe I'm the odd one out, but I thought I would put my experiences out
there with this discussion.

Subject: [MR] Your suggestions please
Greetings all - I need your help.
I would like to hear some of your suggestions on how we can work together
to create the middleages in a better way. What can we do now to make our
events
seem more like they would have if they had truly been held in period.
Think back to when you were new to our Society. What was it that made you
come
back time after time?
Please email your responses to me at Elizabetsca at ymail.com.
