I've done Atkins a couple of times, the first time in the early 80s. There are
severe carb restrictions in the "induction phase," but never so low as zero.
Indeed, it's pretty much impossible to get much below 10 grams/day, even on a
diet of straight muscle meat.

Once you get the pattern started, you will continue to lose weight even if you
consume moderate carbs. The RDA for carbs is about 126 grams/day, and it's
hard to get that low on anything like "normal" foods. Cheeses have at least 1
gram per ounce. Nuts about 2 grams or more. But you increase your carbs until
you stop losing weight and then you decrease them.

I had stabilized my weight on about 60 grams/day. Then after about a year or
18 months, I started losing again. So I started cheating more to stop the
loss. But I overdid the cheating and the next thing I knew I was letting out
the back seam in my doublet :-(

Anyhow, it's pretty individual how much carb you need, so experiment and keep
records.

forbade all carbs. The Dr. Atkins I think you are referencing did not suggest
anyone do a carb free diet of any sort.

Probably not the healthiest way to eat.

like to see that data. Because I follow this stuff and have seen nothing of
the sort in any reputable source.
