[MR] [AtlantianHeralds] A question of Protocol regarding toasts

Dagobert and Dulcy and all the rest who are thinking along those lines but haven't spoken up, I am truly sorry you've run into people and situations where the game becomes reality for some and their egos, agendas and power plays override so much of value and worth ... and just plain fun.

But I think this discussion is something different.

As Mistress Alisoun points out, this is the realm of not only Royalty and nobility but of heralds.

It is so much better to have this discussion in an open public forum, even if it doesn't resolve itself into one accepted answer, because it will prepare all the heralds out there for what they might run into. It will give us all reason to consider what and how and who when it comes to the next procession or toast or ... pick a thing wherein precedence matters.

Gorm was a bit tongue in cheek when he started part of this thread, asking how one handles a situation where Royalty and Peers are absent ... in his scenario it was a small backwoods baronial event against a major fighting event ...

I'm here to tell you that self same thing happened to me and it wasn't a little back water event. It was the Kingdom Archery Championships last year. No Royalty. No high Nobility. No Peers. Not at feast anyway. So having some discussion upon which to draw ... some knowledge of expectation ... that would have been helpful when someone came to me and said, Gise, how are we going to do the toasts??

In the end, Dagobert, I hope you do not continue to walk away from the SCA, though that is certainly your prerogative. Goodness knows I've had my share of disagreements with Royalty and People Of Significance. I think we likely all have. But find the place in the game you enjoy and gravitate there. Find the people who are insignificant or at least just don't give a good hallelujiah and enjoy the companionship of equals.

Yeah, I know, sometimes easier said than done but trust me, those moments, those people, they're out there. And from the sound of things in your post, you are a valuable asset to this organization. I'd hate to lose that.

In any case ... be well and travel safely.

Neried Herald ... thus my interest in this thread

Dagobert, I heart you right now.

Right on.

I've said it in the past, I just haven't said it as well.
