Actually, I don't heavy fight, but I am a great lover of white water rafting, and it's about the same (fighting with a piece of wood in your hands, getting bashed around and getting bruised up), plus the added energy expense of trying to stay warm. GORP (Good Old Raisins and Peanuts) breaks throughout is very good for that. Fat, protein, and a bit of carbs from fruit works very well for that.
