[MR] Question about Sterling Silver Mug

Hello everyone!

I have a question for anyone who knows anything about mugs. A friend of mine
recently found a sterling silver plated mug with a glass bottom. He dropped
it on a carpet floor, which dented the mug and caused the glass to crack.
It's now begun to flake off and is entirely unusable. Does anyone know the
best way to repair it? If possible, he'd like to replace the bottom with
plastic. If anyone can help, that would be great.
