several folks comment on my post to "remind" me that they need money to fund
the next event or that they have to have seed funds for meetings and things
like fighter practice sites (the latter makes no sense to me since using
someones yard should not cost anything). however none of those comments
actually addressed what i said which was that a profit (that means funds
that over and above costs) of $1200 is unnecessary. if 300 folks came to
your event and you made $4 profit off of each one you clearly didnt work
your numbers correctly or, hopefully not, you intended to make that much
profit. meaning you made enough money to replace the "seed" money for the
event so that you can seed it next year AND you cleared an additional $1200
off of everyone. what i am suggesting isnt that anyone scrape by or lose
money, what im saying is that a profit of $200 doesnt feel as though profit
was the main goal by which the "success" of the event was based. i cant
comment on the fear of groups suddenly going bankrupt and imploding or
whatever happens in that case as i am not aware of groups going bankrupt.
perhaps it is a real fear and we have lost groups because of it although we
really dont lose them (the people) if their zip codes get absorbed because
they are suddenly broke.
