The SCA can, all too often, be used to escape a crappy real world life. It allows you to put your priorities on hold so you can be someone else in an often better world for a while. 

 

That is incredibly seductive. 

 

You can blow a lot of money on the SCA. You can also play very much on the cheap. If you can't even afford cheap end SCA, don't blow what little resources you have on your hobby. Spend it wisely and improve your lot.
