"some folks, apparently, wish to ignore that here on the merry rose and find it objectionable when its pointed out. why?"
Because the MR is not the place for political activism. This is a larger proxy war between gay rights groups and the churches that sponsor the scouts.
"why is it labeled as an attack when it is merely the truth?"
Because, truth or not, activists are continually bringing politics into venues where it does not belong. Proselytizing.
And since most of us have enough class not to engage in political debate here, we become a captive audience to whatever the political activists are preaching that day. Its incredibly inconsiderate and rude.
If you disagree with policy, write a letter and lobby the board to change it. But don't fire off cheap shots at fellow scadians as Penance or as an Indulgence against your own shortcomings. Because thats all this was: she publicly declared her adoption of a “righteous cause” to compensate for her own defects of character. Then browbeat the OP with her moral “superiority”. Next month, she’ll regret exploiting the illegals who mow her yard, and we’ll all be subjected to a rant about Atenveldt.
"facts are facts and bigotry is, for many of us, unacceptable in this day and age."
We will not tolerate intolerance, eh? Whats next? Pick at military vets in the SCA because of DADT? Pick at Scadian Jews because of Gaza? Boycott the Kingdom of Atenveldt because of Arizona immigration law? (sorry guys, no Pennsic for you this year). Thats where this path leads.
"how it is ok for people to take exception to others pointing out the facts of an organization they happen to support and claim that doing so is some kind of attack."
Because the topic is more complex than the Strawmen that have been presented. So it invites debate on issues that have divided this country - divided families, divided friends, divided work associates. Those of us who have directly experienced this carnage are left with three choices: 1) engage in a debate that will likely result in a firestorm and negatively affect relationships in the SCA that we value dearly, 2) politely ignore the recurring lectures of what warmongering racist sexist homophobes we surely are, 3) vote with our feet.
I handle political issues in RL, and the one thing I am certain of is this: if you bring it here, it will tear this group apart.
Please keep the Culture Wars out of our hobby. We don’t want to be converted. Even when we agree with you.
Cheers
