Hi there,

A couple of notes on French heraldry.  

Northern France falls into the so-called "French-British" heraldic region, so 
most English heraldry books will help you a lot here.  See the reference below 
for some of the differences.

Southern France lies in the "Latin Province" and is more like the Italian or 
Spanish style.  Sir Richard, I will send you an article explaining the 
differences.  The rest of you will have to attend my class on the Heraldic 
Regions of Europe in order to learn :)
