Interesting, it looks like the later the period the more the body weight was shifted from the heel to the ball of the foot. Though they may not be as glamorous, I think I would prefer the earlier period ones just because I am not skilled in walking in high-heeled shoes; I usually walk on my heels. The Spanish ones from 1540 remind me of when I was a kid & we made 'stilts' with strings and metal coffee cans. <grin>
