i assume that when heating it you hear, and or, see steam coming from the
bottom. the trick is to find the spot where the seam has come apart or the
metal has worn thin (assuming that you use it on an electric range which
will abrade the bottom of your steel ware). you can then weld a bead around
that area and hope that it seals the leak. it is terribly thin material so
it requires some skill setting the amps on the welder so as to not burn
through the plate. a little grinding to smooth it out and you should be all
fine. i had to repair large stockpot with a tiny tack weld in much the
same way. of course if its stainless you will want stainless wire used.
you can use mild wire but that spot will develop surface rust. the bottom
could also be a high tin content which makes such a repair very tricky. if
its a high end pot you might want to contact the manufacturer with a claim
against the workmanship of the pot itself just to see about a replacement or
a replacement at cost.

Subject: [MR] Fixing food vessels
Okay, since we are on the subject of fixing food vessels and whatnot, maybe
someone could help me with a problem I have with a leaky teapot.
I love my teapot too much to get rid of it. It's a funky Michael Graves
design and I adore it. And it's perfectly watertight while it's cold.
However, it springs a minute, invisible leak in what I presume is the bottom
seam when you heat it up. You see the problem.
I am pretty sure it's probably made of steel.
Is there any help for my beloved teapot?
