I'll add one other option.  If you are doing a drinking vessel -
Consider tool dip.

Ok, you can stop laughing now.

No really.

Tool Dip, once cured, is perfectly food safe, and if you paint it on the
inside of a vessel has the ability to also waterproof/seal it.  Extra spiff.

Even works with alcohol and coffee.
