Your Majesty, Populace of Atlantia,
I have directed His Excellency Barre Fitz Robert of York, my Deputy Earl Marshal for Combat Archery, to conclude the experiment on Siloflex. As part of that action, His Excellency will advise me on whether to allow Siloflex permanently or to ban it. I would ask any who have opinions on this matter to contact His Excellency. I have copied him on this email. Know that this action was taken solely because I feel that having an "experiment" codified into policy violates the spirit of the term "experiment" and that some resolution is due our fighters.
In the future, if anyone has concerns about the conduct of the marshallate, decisions handed down from any of my deputies or the conduct or actions of any fighter or marshal, know that you can always contact me directly. I check my email daily and am happy to tell you in very clear language how and why a decision was made. I won't necessarily be able to make you like it, but I can give you the true course of events.
Thank you for your time,
Lord Kynnyth Pyke
Earl Marshal, Atlantia

i will leave this to the earl marshal to address.
however, i would like to point out that you make a lot of assumptions that
are incorrect. the atlantian chivalry have not discussed pushing any
changes to the way combat archery is done since ive been a knight. the
fighting community, at least in my circles, has not done so either. you
also make an assumption that any change to combat archery that the combat
archers dont like is a conspiracy to try and "keep their numbers down". ive
never seen anyone attempt that on a societal level within the chivalry and
certainly not on an atlantian level. i would recommend asking for
clarification to something overheard and saving judgment time for after
compiling all the facts. there are a lot of valid arguments against combat
archery the way it is handled in the sca currently and a very active push to
correct the many issues or simply ban it. atlantia, as a kingdom, is silent
on these issues although there are a number of us fighters that are, and
have been, actively involved in trying to solve the problems. but, those
are individuals within the fighting community working to correct issues and
find compromises, not something "atlantia" is doing. i personally cant
recall any discussions about tube arrows in a very long time so i am unable
to comment on the rumor you heard.

Why do Atlantians dislike combat archery so much? After Pennsic last year, I
had thought that Atlantia was starting to see the value of CA. But, I heard
this weekend that Atlantia will be banning tube (siloflex) ammo after
Pennsic this year. I hope that I just misunderstood what was being said,
because that will cause a lot of people to quit doing Combat Archery. I know
my friends and I have almost $600 invested in tube bolts and over $1200 in
crossbows designed to shoot them! This gear isn't cheep! I don't know how
Atlantia can expect people to loose that kind of investment and keep
playing!
I honestly can't see why Atlantia would have a problem with tube ammo
anyway. Heavy bows/crossbows and tube ammo has been deemed safe at the
Society level as well as in numerous other kingdoms. An Atlantian swung
sword will hit with a lot more mass and force then any bolt or arrow ever
will! So why is the Atlantian Chivalry/heavy fighters trying to keep the CA
numbers down? Remember, bows/crossbows are weapons of war. In most cases,
they are going to be used against our enemies in support of our own troops.
Keeping the Combat Archer numbers down is only going to hurt Atlantia and
help our rivals. They are working on build up their CA numbers, so don't you
think it would be wise for us to do the same? Not make it harder and drive
combat archers away!
If someone could explain what is going on, and why, I would greatly
appreciate it! Also, is there a Forum where this stuff is discussed? If we
could see and take part in the discussions, we wouldn't feel so blindsided
when the rules get changed.
