[MR] An Idea Croppeth Up....

I think you misunderstand "private venture".

Craigslist is a "private venture". So is MySpace, Facebook, Twitter,
Angie's List, Ebay, Amazon, etc.

My THOUGHT was that of a self-published directory, where I could list my
trade and/or skills, and search for others based on their tradem skills,
and/or location. There are PLENTY of models for this sort of website.

I'm not at all sure how you get from what I said that it would NOT be
public, or that the information therein would be controlled by "one or
two people". But, perhaps it's not such a good idea after all. For some
reason, there seems to be a great prejudice against "private ventures"
such as this lately. It's probably not worth the bit of effort it would
take to get it running, given the reception a "private venture" like
that would be likely to receive.

I think it needs to be in a public place, not someone's private website (otherwise I'd do it myself on my own site), so that it's very easily accessible to anyone that it pertains to. It would need to be editable by anyone that adds their own information to it, not just by one or two people. Any personal info is therefore put up by and at the the persons' own hand/risk/permission.
