Idioms and slang are fiendishly hard to translate and get the feeling of the original.
In "gone to the dogs" , no one is actually going anywhere. :-) 

But, trusting to the other scholars here for adjustment, here goes....

In musica, veritas. In vita, amor.
Illud scripsistine?  Carminam illam amo.
