Here's what Kingdom Law says about photography:
"10.1.3 The use of flash bulbs is forbidden in the central area of a
Society event, being defined as any area where people must be present in
order to participate in the event, such as the hall where a feast or court
is taking place. The autocrat shall be responsible for defining the
boundaries of the central area and should be consulted before any
photography using flash bulbs takes place. Photography with flash bulbs is
permitted in the interior of a pavilion only with the owner's permission,
but only if this use of a flash bulb will not disturb anyone in the main
area of an event. It is hoped that anyone taking photographs at any time
will first obtain permission from those being photographed as a matter of
courtesy."
So, we as a populace either need to be aware of this and abide by these
guidelines set forth in section 10 of Kingdom Law, or petition for Kingdom
Law to be changed to accommodate flash photography in the main area of
events.

To all and sundry,
It wasn't until 10 years into my SCA experience that I discovered
experimental archaeology, living the way someone did using artifacts
recreated from finds. You discover some amazing things about your
"secondary sources" when you put them into practice in real life. Like the
scene from "Timeline", for me nothing modern can go back. With the exception
of a cellphone on vibrate for medical emergencies at home and the carkeys
everything modern stays in the car.
It took some time to get there of course, discovering something I didn't
have a period model for, but slowly over time I acquired or made chairs,
tables, chests, trunks, water barrels, pitchers, mugs, all those things that
make lime green Coleman chairs and red coolers unnecessary. I still
sometimes wish I could wear my UV blocking Oakleys but it is a concession I
am willing to make. <grin>
Cheers,
James ap Llewelyn, squire to Sir Gauss
