To all and sundry,
It wasn't until 10 years into my SCA experience that I discovered
experimental archaeology, living the way someone did using artifacts
recreated from finds. You discover some amazing things about your
"secondary sources" when you put them into practice in real life. Like the
scene from "Timeline", for me nothing modern can go back. With the exception
of a cellphone on vibrate for medical emergencies at home and the carkeys
everything modern stays in the car.

It took some time to get there of course, discovering something I didn't
have a period model for, but slowly over time I acquired or made chairs,
tables, chests, trunks, water barrels, pitchers, mugs, all those things that
make lime green Coleman chairs and red coolers unnecessary. I still
sometimes wish I could wear my UV blocking Oakleys but it is a concession I
am willing to make. <grin>
Cheers,
James ap Llewelyn, squire to Sir Gauss
