That is something I have said for years.... For an organization that THRIVES on the Middle Ages, I can't think of a SINGLE person in the SCA that couldn't live without their computer....  For many, a camping event is pushing it....
*chuckles*
I do understand your point though, to me, it is very hard to judge a person by just what is seen of them online, no matter HOW high quality the work/research/whatever they are posting online....
I tend to prefer speaking with people face to face, and I think a lot of the PASSION that many of these artisans put into their work doesn't come across as clearly in any kind of media as it would in person....

There is something perversely wrong with a need for a web presence of any
kind being necessary  for ANY level of recognition in a MEDIEVAL living history
group (the SCA in our case).
The exception being of course is recognition for accomplishments relating to
producing web content.
