Subject: Italian Renn Workshop Sunday 30 Sep 07

Maestra Giuliana has offered to do a series of workshops on Italian Renn
gowns. In the first workshop of the series, we are starting with the
undergarment, the camicie.

We're starting at noon with a pot luck lunch and a discussion of the
basics of Florentine clothing, and then we'll start to work on our
camicies.

MATERIALS: Bring about 4 yards light weight (3.5 oz) white linen,
scissors, measuring tape, pins chalk or marking tools and thread. We
will have three sewing machines and a serger, so another couple of
machines would be helpful. OPTIONAL: Commercial bias tape for binding
the neckline and cuff edges. (We will also be making linen bias tape if
you don't want to use the commercial tape).

DIRECTIONS:

FROM FREDERICK/HAGERSTOWN:

Take I-70 E, exit 56. Turn left onto 144. You'll pass the National

Guard Armory, cross over the Monocacy River. Next street on the right

is Bartonsville Road. Turn right onto Bartonsville Road. Go about the

length of a football field. You'll see the River Oaks neighborhood on

the right. Turn right. Take the second left (Slate Hill Place). This

is a very short street that ends in two cul-de-sacs. One on the left,

and one on the right. We're the second house on the left in the

cul-de-sac on the left. Feel free to park on the grass in the

cul-de-sac.

FROM GAITHERSBURG/DC:

Directions from I-270 can get a little complex. There is a new
interchange onto I-70 E, coming down I-270. This interchange is so new,
it might not be reflected on Mapquest yet. Anyway, follow I-270 all the
way to Frederick, where it ends. You will pass a mall on the right. Just
past the mall, I-270 splits. The far right lane exits out to I-70 E.
Then follow the directions from above to exit 56, etc.

FROM BALTIMORE:

Take I-70 W. Get off at exit 59 onto 144. Curve to the right and merge

onto 144. Follow this through the light (Spring Ridge), then up the

hill. Note that 144 is split by a median. It merges at the top of the

hill. Once it merges, the next street at on the left is Bartonsville

Road. Turn left. Go about the length of a football field. You'll see

the River Oaks neighborhood on the right. Turn right.

Take the second left (Slate Hill Place). This is a very short street
that ends in two cul-de-sacs. One on the left, and one on the right.

We're the second house on the left in the cul-de-sac on the left.

Feel free to park on the grass in the cul-de-sac.
