[MR] Poppies & Veteran's Day

Ah, you're dredging up memories long forgotten!  My father was an Air force vet, and I remember, as a small child, always going to the VFW and getting these little red flowers (fake, unfortunately), with a wired stem, that we'd stick through a button hole of our shirt.  I never knew what they were about, of course, being way too young to understand, at least at first.
 
By the time I was old enough to understand, he'd either stopped doing it, or stopped bringing me along, I don't know which, since I don't have teenage memories of those flowers.
 
After all this time, it's nice to finally know what they were for.
