Greetings from Sir Bryce de Byram, OL, OP!
At Pennsic War this year a Crusaders vs. Saracens
Battle will be fought, as in years past. More
information about this battle as it develops can be
found at:
http://atlantiancombat.netboardz.com/viewtopic.php?t=257
Because of my past involvement with this battle I
stepped up to recruit fighter, archers, and siege
weapon fighters from Atlantia, for both the Crusader
and Saracen side. All of this is in good fun, and in
the spirit of doing something really cool and medieval
looking, instead of just the same old pennsic battles
fought over and over. It is, like all our martial
endeavors, a chance to share fellowship and commedrie.
There has always been a spirit of respect and muitial
understanding between the two sides of this battle,
and it has always been done in a chivalrous manner.
At the last two kingdom events (ToC and Crown), I
tried, while attempting to stay in persona, to explain
the coming conflict. This was meant purely as
Court-sthick, and as a recruitment tool to get folks
excited about this really cool battle. As up until
Saturday, we had no one who was willing to take up the
role of spokesman for the Saracen side, I had
focused by initial efforts on getting folks excited
about the battle from the Crusader perspective. My
attempts to do this focused around a 'call to crusade'
as was experienced before the events of the Third
Crusade in most of western europe.
I thought that my efforts to promote this event were
very clear in both presentations, as being obvious
persona play, but I have received private word that by
my actions I have offended certain members of our fine
organization, all of whom I consider extended family
as Atlantians. For this I humbly apologize and beg
your collective forgiveness.
It was never my intention to upset anyone but rather
to get folks excited about this wonderful opportunity
we have at Pennsic. On Saturday after court in fact, I
was approached by several fighters (as I was at ToC)
who were interested in portraying Saracens, and a
new spokesman for that side was found.
Our intent has always been to have a Crusader vs.
Saracen offer/counter-offer to promote, once again,
all in fun, this wonderful battle. The unbalanced
view-point that was offered was simply a matter of
poor planning on my part, and once again, I apologize
if I have confused, hurt, or upset anyone. At the
time, I did not have anyone to speak for the
opposition as it were, but that fault rest with me
alone.
Please consider helping out with our efforts, both
Crusader and Saracen for this upcoming battle, or if
it is not your cup of tea please do not support us.
Knowing the type of discussion that usually takes
place on this list, I am loathe to even post this
here, but I feel it is in the best interest of the
Battle, as well as Their Majesties, who have been
blameless in all this in only allowing me court time,
that I address this in the most public forum I can.
I am not interesting in getting an on line Flame War
about it, however, and would ask that if you have any
further concerns or complaints to please contact me at
my personal email address: poetamilitarus at yahoo.com
I feel that the presentation at ToC was much more
lighthearted and folks understood what was going on.
It is my failing that we did not make this clear at
Crown Tourney, and once again, I sincerely apologize.
I remain, a servant to the Society, and to all of you
fine people,
Bryce de Byram (Duane Moore)
