Unto the people of Fair Atlantia does Duchess Padraigin O'hEachach send greetings!
I am writing to you today concerning the Royal Travel Fund. Current
Atlantian Kingdom Financial Policy states that:
A Travel Fund shall be established to partially defray the costs associated
with travel to official Society functions. Each Travel Fund shall be opened
with an allocation of $1400 from the General Funds for reimbursement of
in-kingdom travel expenses as soon as the Coronet has been chosen. Any
donations to the travel fund will not be restricted to in-kingdom expenses.
Each fund will be available for donations and disbursements for the entire
duration of the couple's reign, and will not exceed 30 days after the end of
the reign.
While the amount of money in the travel fund has been raised significantly,
it is now restricted to use for in-Kingdom travel. Only donations to the
fund may be used for out-of-kingdom travel. What this means is that the
events farthest away, and most expensive to travel to, cannot be reimbursed
from the travel fund unless additional monies are raised.
In the fulfillment of their duties and royalty of the Kingdom of Atlantia,
TRM Valharic and Arielle have or will travel(led) to the following
out-of-kingdom events:
Pennsic War Negotiations, East Kingdom, NY
Candlemas, Middle Kingdom, KY
Gulf War, Gleann Abhann, MS
Midrealm Coronation, Middle Kingdom, MI
Pennsic War, Aethelmearc, Slippery Rock, PA
I know it may seem as if the Kingdom is always trying to raise funds for one
thing or another. In an effort to reduce "fundraising fatigue" there will
be limited fundraisers for TRM Valharic and Arielle during their reign.
Those are still in the planning stages, but are likely to happen between
Sapphire Joust and Assessment. There will be no more than 2 fundraisers.
However, a donation can be made to the Royal Travel Fund at any time, and I
would ask you to consider making a donation. Travel to out-of-kingdom
events is expected of our Royals, and is necessary to maintain relationships
with our neighbors and allies. Many of your acquaintances may receive recognition from Their Majesties at some of these events. I hope we can all consider easing their travel burden.
This weekend at Crown Tournament, Lady Melisent La Ruse will be happy to
collect any donation you may desire to give. Donations can be made either by cash or check. If writing a check, it should be made out to "Kingdom of Atlantia - SCA, Inc." with the names of the royalty in the memo line.
I will post information about other fundraising opportunities as they arise.
In service to the Crown,
Padraigin
