***PLEASE CROSSPOST to all groups as necessary and appropriate***
Greetings to the Populace of Atlantia,
In honor and celebration of the crowning of our new King and Queen, the
Scrivener Royal hereby invites all the scribes of the Kingdom of Atlantia
and parts unknown, to bring gifts of their art to be used by the new
monarchs during their reign, as entrance into a grand competition for the
practitioners of this most noble art form.
The Rules:
1) Entries must be actual scroll blanks with both calligraphy and
illumination (if applicable to the style). Colored in promissories
(computer generated designs off the Clerk Signet website or elsewhere) do
NOT
count as entries. Any award given in Atlantia (with the exception of the
Nonpareil and Peerages, which are specifically excluded from this
competition) is an
acceptable choice for a blank, though orders of High Merit will be
judged more strictly for appropriate quality and complexity.
***Blanks for potentially armigerous awards NEED to have room left in the
text for
the arms of the recipient. This includes any award that conveys an AoA or
GoA. If
you're not sure if an award is armigerous, please feel free to ask.***
2) Each scroll blank will be scored separately, and the scores will be
totalled cumulatively. Which means that if the scribe enters three
scrolls, each scroll is judged separately, but the total score will
be all three tallies summed together.
3) The scribe with the most points wins! HOWEVER, the points are
based off the quality, artistic merit, and *historical accuracy* of
the pieces. The point of this competition is to encourage artistry
first, and profligacy second, and the fine balance of attaining one without
sacrificing the other.
4) Scribes may enter as a team. (An illuminator pairing with a
calligrapher to produce team efforts.) However the team will be
judged as a single entrant.
5) Documentation is extremely highly encouraged, but NOT required.
(Documentation does count for a small percentage of the points, but
is not necessary for entering the competition.)
6) Display space may be EXTREMELY limited due to hall consideration.
(to the point of possibly being unavailable, which is entirely the fault of
myself
for leaving arranging the details of the competition to this late
date, but the gracious Lady Iseulte and I are hoping to figure something
out.)
Pictures will be taken of all the entries, and will be posted to the Merry
Rose after
the competition, in either case.
7) There will be participation prizes for every entrant, to thank them for
their
gift to the Kingdom, AS well as a first place prize, and a best-in-show
"novice scribe" prize
that is entirely at the judges' discretion.
To win the novice scribe best-in-show, scribe must have been doing C&I (or
one or the other,
as may be the case), for less than 3 years, and not received any award grant
level or higher specifically for their art.
If you are an illuminator only, and not a calligrapher, you can still enter
the competition,
just be aware you may lose points for the lack of calligraphy on the piece.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
