Lots of nice pictures. But you're not going to get pictures of people
who are new and trying to just fit in a bit. A pair of Scrubs bottoms
will do for slops or venetians. Thread a cord through the hem at the
bottom of the leg. Remove outside pockets.
Tunics are reportedly easy to make if your daughter hasn't gone off
to college with your sewing machine. If your has, some African dress
will do for a tunic. A jelaba (galabayah in Egypt) will do for a
woman: for a man, you'll have to hem it up. Some Indian (dot, not
feather) tops will also do as tunics for women.
There are also some nightshirts or pyjama tops with a partial
buttoning. Remove the hard collar, if any--leave the band. Remove
buttoms and replace with cords (laces)
For women, mary-janes are period. There are "monks shoes" with
buckles that will do for men if made without toecaps and with thin
soles. Desert boots may be OK.
A cloak can be made by cutting a blanket (in winter) or beadspread
(in summer) in a half-circle. This will cover just about everything
The straight sides go down your front and you can pin on the right
shoulder with a blanket safety pin covered with a brooch.
Then you get your sewing machine back, and start collecting
patterns. Or, if you don't want sewing among your skills, then swap. Or spend.
