[MR] behavior towards gift givers

I find that for my own part, I'm embarrassed to be gifted with such a beautiful thing as a handmade scroll and feel most unworthy. That would be why I forget to thank the artists who make them. Having said that, however, I have yet to receive a scroll or a promissory that I didn't adore and feel humbled by.
(I wonder how much of this attitude is left from my parents very victorian-style upbringing, but that's for the psychologist to talk about.)
I dabbled in scroll-making several years ago and did a terrible hacked-up job of many scrolls, and made one passable scroll that is framed in the kitchen of the recipient. I'm embarrassed about that one, too, because it just doesn't look very good, to me.
Also, when I receive a scroll, I tend to be overwhelmed by the emotion of the moment and go into auto-pilot mode so I never know who I've thanked, then feel silly thanking someone later.
I should get to scanning in some of my scrolls, in my copious spare time...
