[MR] RIP Sir Patri du Chat Gris.

Sad news indeed for someone who has known Patri for nearly thirty years in
and out of the Society.

Patri was not only a gracious long-term Baron of Carolingia, an elegant
figure in the list and in the court, but an always generous friend, truly "a
gentleman and a scholar".

I have not had the joy of dancing with Patri since I moved to the far south
of the Atlantia lands nearly two decades ago, but I well remember his grace
and generosity as a partner both at Society revels and CDSS dances and
workshops. His reconstructions of period dances were an equal joy to read
and to dance and I deeply regret that there will be no more of them in days
to come.

For those who did not know him I recommend that you go to your favorite web
crawler and search on "Patri du Chat Gris" or "Patri Pugliese" and enjoy the
bounty of scholarly yet accessible articles that he has left behind on
period and Baroque dance, on fencing, on dance reconstruction and many other
areas of interest to those in the Society.

I think I'll head home now, put on the Carolingian dance tape and get a bit
melancholy.

Who has had far too many of these moments of late. . .

Subject: [MR] RIP Sir Patri du Chat Gris.

I have learned that Sir Patri du Chat Gris, Knight, Master of the Laurel,
Master of the Pelican, and holder of numerous awards from the East Kingdom
and his beloved Barony of Carolingia, left this world yesterday. May he rest
in peace and delight.

I knew Sir Patri from my early days in the Known World when I lived up in
the area between what was then the Shire of the Bridge and the Barony Beyond
the Mountain, in AS IX.

Sir Patri was a quiet, diminutive man whose knowledge and skill far
overshadowed his physical presence.

A gentle soul, yet skilled in the arts of defence and of war, Sir Patri was
a force to be reckoned with in the Lists, on the field of battle, or in
debate.

He was aye ready to serve his kingdom and was a shining example of the
virtues of chivalry and courtesy to all.

I trust that the angels guiding him to heaven danced a stately pavanne as
they escorted him.

Rest in peace, most excellent gentleman. May your memory inspire others as
your life did.

Your servant aye
Donal Mac Ruiseart
