As long as we are doing the memories thing...
I can recall twenty or so years ago when the A&S community couldn't
pull off an event that would make the fees required to rent a hall.
Back then we had a requirement to enter Crown Tourney that stipulated
the attendence of potential crown entrants in at least two non-fighting
events during the past year. This requirement was just as much to force
fighters to come to A&S events to help with costs as it was to "force"
them to pay attention to the A&S.
When the idea of additional A&S events was brought up back then, it was
dropped because they couildn't figure out an additional method of
forcing the fighters to come.
Now, I think all of this is drivel (jmho). If you want to watch the
fighting, do so. If you want to spend the day exclusively immersed in
A&S, do so. If you want a bit of both, seek it out, it will be
available. But this idea of excluding martial activites makes no more
sense to me than forced exclusion of A&S at tournies - something I
would not support, either.
My awards gained over the years are well spread through fighting,
service and the arts. I would not give up any of those activities and
see no reason for their exclusivity at any event.
And this weekend my endeavors will be exclusively A&S because I want to
enjoy that aspect of the Kingdom I love so well. This is my choice, no
forced participation of any kind.
May all our fighters and artisans know the blessings of success in
their endeavors. We need them all.
Sir Riuchard de Montbrai
Don't expect me to list my awards.
P.S. - If you want to harange me about this post, I welcome you to
bring the discussion to me personally so that other gentles might know
a sense of peace.
