I haven't weighed in on the Fighting thing yet, in part because I haven't
formed an opinion.  I have a feeling I'll wait to see how the event went
and make my opinion about future events from there.  However I do have to
disagree with this statement:

"KASF (and University, for the most part ) is the only event in  the whole
 Atlantian calendar that is dedicated solely to the arts and sciences."

That has been true in the past, and during the warm season tends to still
be true.  However I've been noticing lately more and more events without
fighting.  For example for the last two years Lochmere has had a feast
event at the end of January.  Feburary 17th Dun Carriag also had a non
fighting event.  I think the kinks still need to be worked out to push A&S
at those events (other than the creation of feasts), but there is a trend
out there to have events that are not "all about the fighting".

Oh, and here's my opporutnity to mention one more.  On April 28 The St.
Anne's Clothiers Guild is having a day long Symposium (link: 
http://stannes.atlantia.sca.org/symposium.htm).  Hot and Cold running A&S
all day long, no fighting.

So while the A&S/fighting event ratio is still uneven, A&S focused events
aren't limited to four a year anymore and I see hope for the future.
