Don't tea dye fabric.  That's my first bit of advice. It weakens the fibers
and the garment will wear out much faster.

Are you looking for a period method of dying it a different/darker color or
would you prefer a modern method?  The advice on how to dye the fabric
depends on which you'd rather do.
