Mark Twain once remarked, "When I was fifteen, my father was a total ignoramus. By the time I was 25, I was amazed at how much he had learned."

And there was a French stateman of the early twentieth century whose son, aged about 20, joined the Communist Party. When a friend asked him what he thought of that, the statesman replied that if his son had not done something like joining the Communists at age 20, he would be inclined to disown him. "But, if at age 30 he is still a Communist, then I *will* disown him!"
