One title that has some historic precedent is "Equerry," or for that matter, "Equerry in waiting." Though it has the same root as "squire," (literally a shield-bearer) its meaning in English is different.
<Mumble> years ago (when Atlantia was still a principality), I was a "Gentleman of the Chamber" to King Gavin of the East.
Another possibility is "chamberlain."

I have been part of a discussion about unofficial
household titles.
What might you call a gentleman who is serving the
same function as a "Lady in Waiting" to the Lady of
the Household but is not an apprentice, protege, or a
squire?
Lord in Waiting?
Attendant?
Secretary?
