[MR] background checks and chicken little

My children are grown now, but from infancy well into their teens My Lady
and I practiced 'tag team' parenting. One of us, or a trusted friend, would
be with them at all times. It would take, just like in show wrestling, a
physical tag of the other adult. Yes, we did use the children's corner, but
that's where the 'trusted friend' comes in. Dame Judith is a saint and my
adult children still go up to her, thank her and catch her up on their
lives, every time they see her. I fully agree with those who have posted
saying that they are worried/appalled by parents that let their children
just run about. Some of our acquaintances thought that we were too
controlling/smothering of our children, but they have grown to be strong,
independent adults that didn't have horrible incidents as children.
I'm ambivalent about the question of background checks even though my
daughter just got one to work at a day care center. I would think that
persons with previously existing certification [teachers, daycare people,
etc.] would be an adequate check and save the Society some money. I agree
with the people that say that the Society absolutely should pay for these
certs just as all the other positions get their expenses covered.
Oh, what a bucket of worms this is.
