Having never been near being elevated, but having seen many friends receive
well-deserved peerages, I speak from the peanut gallery when I say that I
appreciated knowing in advance so I could contribute or at least be in
place. I don't get to all that many events these days, but because enough
notice was given I was able to attend when my knight's lady was made a
Laurel, to be standing in court as a retainer and see my knight's face when
he got his Pelican, to stand a turn at guard when someone who mentored me in
many ways got her Pelican...it is very nice to be able to share in these
great moments in our friends' lives.
