Greetings list:

I am new to this list, but an old Scadian.
I don't have dogs (yet), but I have been to events where they were allowed; most of them were very quiet.. especially at night... a sign of "responsible handling". I would agree that rewarding the owners for the good behavior of thier companions is only half the solution: Making a complaint to the irresponsible owners or, treat them as we do with disruptive guests of a member: ask then to leave. It may seem a bit Draconian, but it would encourage people to train their animals... if they are going to be around people and "interesting distractions" like an event.

We have two cats that WIlhelm and I took to a Pax Interruptus (Æthelmearc) a few years ago. Both were on leads and both were proudly wearing little tabards. They were very well behaved. We also took our cats' needs into consideration. Loud noises are my younger cat's "flight trigger", while next to nothing disturbs the elder cat. When I see something that would make a loud noice.. I would sit and start to comfort the younger cat, and no incident occurred.

Just a bit of encouragement.. if cats can be trained to behave genteely, one shoud have no problem with dogs.

  Marie Hélène
