I would add that the first weekend in December isn't the most convenient
time for a mandatory event.  Anyone working in retail will almost certainly
not be able to get the time off. For the rest of us, the time between
Thanksgiving and Christmas is usually packed full of mundane obligations.  I
know I never feel like I have enough time in December as it is, and losing
an entire weekend to meetings really cuts into my holiday preparation.  To
say nothing of the financial drain at a time when most people are stretched
thin as it is.

At the risk of having my Laurel card torn up, I think Vels raises some good
points about February University.
