In keeping with the theme of pre1000 and especially Viking we are offering
the following classes, displays, demos, and contests at HRM in the areas of
beads and jewelry.
Classes:
10 am and 1:45 pm Viking Wire Weaving by Lady Ingeborg I Trondheim of the
Barony of Bright Hills. Hands-on easy to make jewelry in “gold,” “silver,” or “
copper” wire for the man or woman from Viking to Norman. Please bring
cutters and needle nose pliers if you have them. Draw plates/draw boards will be
available for sale or make your own later. (No class fee)
11:15am and 3pm Viking Beaded Necklaces by Lady Elena di Salaparuta of the
Barony of Highland Foorde. Hands-on class in making a woman’s Viking necklace.
The kit includes beads, pendants, clasp, and waxed linen thread. Please
bring any special beads or pendants (site tokens etc.) that you would like to add
to the necklace. Additional lampworked beads will be for sale at clearance
prices. Limit of 6 – 8 per class. (Class fee $5) Advance registration

12:30pm Pre-1000 Arms and Armour – or did Vikings really wear those horned
helmets? by Lady Adriana di Salaparuta of the Barony of Highland Foorde
An overview of the materials and styles of arms and armour used by European
and Scandinavian warriors in the period after the fall of Rome and before the
Norman Conquest. Myths will be dispelled and questions answered. Is ring
mail the same as chain mail and what’s a brynie? A double bladed axe or a
bearded axe? Swords or spears or swords and spears or maybe spears and shield?
Vikings on horseback? Spagenhelm – to goggle or not to goggle?
Displays and Demos:
All day: Display of Viking Woman’s Garb and Jewelry and reference
books for both adults and children
Books on Beads and bead making
11am – 4pm Lampworking Demos by La Compagnia dei Maestri del Vetro and
the Barony of Steirbach Lampworkers Guild
Contests sponsored by Lady Elena di Salaparuta of the Barony of Highland

And don’t forget our Baron and Baroness will be awarding prizes to the Best

entry – they will be observing the populace all day long.
